Anniversary Trip, Princesses, Bald Spot, and Happy Easter
Last Friday, Jeff and I celebrated 10 years of "wedded bliss." We took a trip to Lake Lure and stayed at my cousin Kathy's cabin (thank you Kathy and Peter!). Samantha stayed home and got properly spoiled by her Mimi, Grandaddy and Aunt Betty.
We saw deer several times driving in and out of the development, but I only had my camera with me once. I was amazed at how well they camoflauged into the scenery. We saw 3-4 deer, but when something startled them and they ran off, we realized there were actually 10+ deer standing in the same area.
We went for a hike at Chimney Rock. Here is a picture of Chimney Rock from below.
We took the Hickory Nut Falls trail around to a waterfall. Here is Jeff resting on a rock about halfway down the trail. (Actually, I was catching my breath and Jeff was waiting on me.) Finally we made it to the waterfall. (For those of you out west, I know it's not much of one, but you take what you can get here in NC.)
We got home in time on Saturday to take Samantha to Skyler's (next to the last on the right) Princess Birthday Party. I'm not sure why Samantha had to put her scepter in her mouth.
For those of you who haven't heard...Samantha has recently started pulling her hair out in her sleep. If anyone has any experience with such a thing, we'd appreciate any tips on how to get her to stop (other than cutting all her hair off.) Anyway, here she is looking in her Easter basket - with a lovely view of her new bald spot.

Are you sure that she is actually pulling it out? I mean - that hurts and it isn't easy to do. Some skin allergies can cause hair to fall out --- maybe it's like ezsema in that spot.
Pretty sure. We would find little knots of hair in her hands or next to her bed after she slept.
I have this vague memory of messing with my hair a lot when I was in elementary school, and then realizing I was doing it and having to stop because I was developing a bald spot there. If you mess with it over a long period of time, it doesn't really even hurt that much.
Lennie went to the doctor today to ask him about that and an unidentified rash that wouldn't go away. He said he thinks it's just a habit she's developed and we just need to break it. Putting on a hat, putting on gloves, giving her something else to mess with, etc.
It was easier when I did because I was old enough to understand I didn't want a giant bald spot on the side of my head or the other kids would make fun of me.
Yikes! Your rock looks scary! LOL
Adorable dress for Samantha!
Are you familiar with trichotillomania? Obviously, I don't know her or the situation well enough to make any diagnosis, but you might want to read this and see if it fits at all: http://www.emedicine.com/PED/topic2298.htm
Yes, Lennie already used the power of the internet to look up weird oddball diseases and decide that Samantha had them even though they bear little resemblence to her actual behavior.
Then I spent half an hour telling her about the evils of the internet and explaining to her why Samantha did not have this particular disorder.
THANKS FOR BRINGING IT BACK UP!
;P
Lisa said that guys at work complain all the time about bald spots on their legs. Their pants rub the same spot while they work and that creates a bald spot. Do you think that she is rubbing the same spot on her new bed's headboard? Being a princess is rough. Check for peas under the mattress also.
Bald spots rock! Think positive! Embrace differences! Make the most of the best and the least of the worst.
Man I have not seen this many comments on a subject since Kennedy got killed. I always believe that "this too will pass"
I had a thought and this takes it back to a lot of how I parent, but what if you totally ignore it? I mean, at their age (I say their b/c I still have a picture of Issa and Samantha from CFA when the cow was there and they're the same age!), they are all into reactions - negative OR positive. It may be worth a thought to totally ignore it. Probably easy to type b/c I'm not living in the moment, but I wonder if she's looking for a reaction at this point? Maybe over the top praising in other areas - cleaning her room, etc (keeping her busy). Just a thought-
I think this song might help....
IF I HAD A HAMMER
I'D HAMMER IN THE MORNING
I'D HAMMER IN THE EVENING
ALL OVER THIS LAND....
I think you know the rest. Sing it every night before bedtime and the bald spot will be gone soon.
