While I'm in the blogging mood I thought I'd add something about our most recent home improvement project.
To start this one off, you have to understand something about me and Lennie. We are world-class procrastinators. So when our house was completed back in 2001ish, we needed a mailbox. So Lennie's dad had an unifinished wood post, and we bought a plain white mailbox and popped it on there with some cheap number stickers and said, "Alright, that will work for now and we'll fix it up later."
About 5 years later, the stickers were starting to peel, and the unifinished post was beginning to look ratty, and somebody who was using our driveway to turn around in smashed into our mailbox and bent it all up. So Lennie's dad hammered it back out for us, and we said, "we should really do something with that. We'll go pick out a new mailbox... soon."
2 years later the dents had all started to rust and the entire thing was approaching epic levels of ugliness. And still we said to ourselves, "any day now we're going to go get a new mailbox!"
So yesterday Lennie's dad was helping me do some yardwork and he said, "You know, we could just paint that post white and buy a plain black mailbox to replace it." And I knew it was time.
Behold the before and after:
Those who appreciate such things will enjoy the emotional overtones of the ugly mailbox in the cold snows of winter, and the new box in springtime with the dandelions in full bloom... guess my next project is weed & feed.

This looks very nice and goes with the house perfectly. Hooray for fathers-in-law and sons-in-law who work with them!
